New Glenn rocket explosion causes severe damage to launch complex

Launch Complex LC-36 at Cape Canaveral was severely damaged following the explosion of a New Glenn rocket. Initial photos from the scene show damage to the base of the service tower, while the lightning mast and the transporter-erector were completely destroyed. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .

Furthermore, significant damage to the fueling infrastructure has been recorded, and the water tower has burned down. The status of the gas venting system remains unknown. Blue Origin is currently assessing the extent of the damage.

The scale of the destruction could significantly delay further work at the site. Blue Origin had invested over $1 billion to reconstruct this complex. Since the LC-36 complex is located just 14 km from the New Glenn assembly plant, this incident is a heavy blow to the company in both technical and organizational terms.

The explosion occurred on May 28 around 9:00 PM local time at Launch Complex 36 in Florida during a power plant test. A bright flash and the sound of the explosion were captured on the NASASpaceFlight.com broadcast. Blue Origin confirmed an "anomaly" occurred during testing, but no employees were injured.

Company founder Jeff Bezos stated that the causes of the incident are currently being investigated. It is not yet clear how this failure will affect the maiden flight schedule of the New Glenn rocket.
