What new powers are given to the Ministry of Health?

The deputies of the Supreme Majlis adopted in the second reading a draft law aimed at improving the system of preventing iodine deficiency diseases among the population.

The draft law authorizes the Ministry of Health to establish the requirements for iodine-containing preparations used for iodization of table salt and food products, establish sanitary rules, norms and hygiene standards for the iodization of table salt and food products, the production, transportation, storage and sale of iodized salt, and to carry out control over them.

The deputies noted that the adoption of this draft law will serve to protect public health, prevent iodine deficiency diseases, and increase the intellectual potential of the growing generation. The population's needs will be fully covered by the supply of high-quality and safe table salt.
