The United States government has expressed special gratitude to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for Uzbekistan's assistance in a historic operation to repatriate illegal immigrants. As part of this operation, 131 citizens of Central Asian countries were sent home on a special charter flight fully funded by Uzbekistan, the US Fox News Digital reported.
"In accordance with an agreement reached between the United States and Uzbekistan, a special flight carrying more than 100 illegal immigrants departed for Uzbekistan on Wednesday. All financial costs associated with their return to their homeland are being covered by the Uzbek government. This is the first such cooperation with a foreign country since Donald Trump took office," Fox News reported.
United States Secretary of Homeland Security Christie Noem paid tribute to Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who personally led the operation:
“We are grateful to Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his personal initiative in sending a plane to repatriate 131 illegal immigrants. Such cooperation is a vivid example of the close ties between our two countries in ensuring security and strengthening the rule of law. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with Uzbekistan,” the US Secretary of State said.
The source emphasized that this repatriation process, fully funded by Uzbekistan, once again demonstrated the deep security cooperation between the two countries, which is one of the important tasks for the United States and its allies.
At the same time, according to Fox News, this operation can serve as a model case that demonstrates the possibilities and ways for the United States to cooperate with other countries on migration issues. It is said that to achieve this result, diplomatic negotiations were held for several months between the US Department of State, the Department of Homeland Security, the White House, the National Security Council and the government of Uzbekistan.
It is worth recalling that on April 30, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan announced the organization of a special charter flight from New York to Tashkent to repatriate Uzbeks illegally present in the United States.
It was noted that this operation was aimed at repatriating citizens who had violated visa regulations or had expired legal residence in the United States, and was carried out in full compliance with humanitarian and legal principles. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the return of citizens to Uzbekistan in safe and dignified conditions would be ensured. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
