
Uzbekistan ranked 127th in the global cost of living index published annually by Numbeo, reported UPL.uz.
According to the 2025 data, the country scored 24.2 out of 100. New York City is used as the benchmark with an index of 100. This means if a country’s index exceeds 100, daily expenses (excluding rent) are higher than in New York. For example, a score of 120 means expenses are 20% higher.
In Tashkent, the average monthly expense per person (excluding rent) is about $484 (approximately 6,260,000 soums), while for a family of four, it’s around $1,643 (about 21,240,000 soums).
Regionally, Uzbekistan lagged behind neighbors Kazakhstan (ranked 116th) and Kyrgyzstan (118th). However, in the safety category, Uzbekistan ranked 27th with an index of 72.1, indicating strong public security and stability.
The purchasing power index was rated at 44.5 points, reflecting an average economic capacity among citizens.
According to the study, the most expensive places to live were the U.S. Virgin Islands and Switzerland (index 98.4), followed by Iceland (83.4). Pakistan, Libya, and Egypt were at the bottom, with the lowest cost of living.
Numbeo analysts based the ranking on real user-submitted data about food, housing, transport, and utility prices around the world.
In 2024, Uzbekistan ranked 60th among 163 countries in the global peace and safety index, jumping 26 positions. Within the CIS, Kazakhstan led the list (59th), followed by Tajikistan (72nd), Kyrgyzstan (78th), and Turkmenistan (83rd).
