Lemon prices in Uzbekistan surged by 65%, reaching 70,000 UZS per kilogram, reported nova24.uz. Compared to June 2024, prices have tripled. Imported lemons from Argentina now sell for 53,000 UZS, while local ones reach 70,000.
The rise is due to a poor citrus harvest in Turkey, Uzbekistan’s main supplier. Prices on local markets increased 3–4 times, impacting foreign trade. In April, a ban on lemon exports was considered but later reversed under pressure. By May, prices reached 60 Turkish lira per kilo.
Due to shortages, even Argentina became a supplier despite the distance. Still, overall prices remained high. By May, locally grown Meyer lemons were nearly gone. The next harvest is expected in small amounts in August, with prices expected to drop only by October. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
