Uzbekistan is moving toward stricter regulations against nighttime noise. A new draft law passed in the first reading by the parliament proposes significantly higher fines for both citizens and officials who disturb public peace during designated nighttime hours.
According to the bill, special “quiet hours” may soon be officially introduced. On weekends, the quiet period will be from 10:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., while on weekdays it will apply from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
During these hours, it will be prohibited to play loud music, carry out construction or repair work, or engage in other noisy activities. Violators will face financial penalties.
The draft states that individuals may be fined up to five times the base calculation rate, approximately 2 million soums. For officials, the penalty could reach 15 times that rate — more than 6 million soums.
Currently, the penalty for such violations is just 113,000 soums. If the law is passed, the fine could increase almost 18 times.
Legal experts believe the new rules will help strengthen public order, protect the rights of citizens to rest peacefully, and promote greater civic responsibility.
The bill is expected to go through additional readings in parliament. Once fully adopted, nighttime disturbances could become not only a moral issue but a serious legal offense.
