Renewable energy is rapidly gaining popularity in Uzbekistan, with solar panels becoming a reliable and eco-friendly solution for households — and even a source of income.
According to the Ministry of Energy, in the first half of 2025, 28,538 citizens sold solar electricity to the national grid, earning a total of 63.5 billion Uzbek soums. These payments were made as subsidies under the “Solar Home” government program.
Region-wise, Khorezm region led with 19.1 billion UZS in subsidies, followed by Karakalpakstan with 9.7 billion UZS and Tashkent city with 4.9 billion UZS. Other regions recorded smaller figures.
Citizens can receive the subsidies easily via the “Soliq” mobile app. In the “Cashback and Benefits” section, selecting “Solar Home” and transferring funds to a bank card is all it takes.
Since April 1, 2023, each 1 kWh of electricity supplied from household solar panels to the grid is subsidized at 1,000 UZS. This initiative encourages the use of clean energy and increases the share of renewables in the country’s energy mix.
