Uzbekistan may purchase ferries from Azerbaijan

Uzbekistan's Minister of Transport Ilhom Mahkamov stated in an interview with the "Uzbekistan 24" TV channel that Tashkent is considering the possibility of purchasing ferries from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, Kursiv.media reported.

According to him, shipbuilding plants operate in these countries. The purchased ferries will be directed towards cargo transportation through the Caspian Sea.

Last autumn, the Vesti.az portal reported that Tashkent and Baku intend to establish ferry production. Up to 150 million dollars were planned to be allocated for these purposes.

At the beginning of July this year, Mahkamov also said that partners from Turkey might be involved in the project. According to the Transport Development Issues Study Center under the Ministry of Transport, this will serve to increase the cargo transportation volume of its own fleet.
