In Uzbekistan, the fight against cruel treatment of animals is being intensified. According to the Supreme Court, in the first half of the current year, 34 citizens were held accountable for such offenses.
According to official information, 32 of them were fined, and two others received administrative arrest for up to 15 days. The court’s press secretary emphasized that punishments for intentional torture of animals, causing them suffering, or leading to their death are strictly established.
From 2020 to 2024, a total of 397 people were prosecuted under Article 111 of the Administrative Responsibility Code. Of them, 363 paid fines, and 34 served administrative arrest.
By law, intentional torture or infliction of suffering on animals is punishable not only by a fine but also by arrest. If such acts are committed repeatedly, the punishment becomes harsher. Moreover, since 2021, a separate article on cruel treatment of animals has been added to the Criminal Code.
The Supreme Court stressed that such measures are important not only for the protection of animals but also for strengthening the sense of humanity and responsibility in society. Experts believe that people who show cruelty to animals also pose a threat to public safety.
It should be reminded that earlier in Bukhara, a case with a bear kept in a cramped cage was widely discussed. After criticism on social networks, the animal was moved to a larger space. Activists noted that the bear had been forced to live in uncomfortable conditions for more than 10 days.
Officials point out that this case once again demonstrated how relevant the issue of humane treatment of animals is in society.
