55.7 tons of waste collected across Uzbekistan

On September 20, 55.7 tons of waste were collected in all regions of Uzbekistan as part of a campaign dedicated to World Cleanliness Day, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change reported.

The event was organized under the motto "Separate space for life." Citizens, youth, and various organizations actively participated in it.

A certain part of the waste was sent for recycling, thereby achieving ecologically significant results.

Employees of the Ministry of Ecology and the Agency for Waste Management and Development of the Circular Economy, environmental activists and youth cleaned the shores of the Tuybuguz Reservoir, known as the Tashkent Sea, of waste.

A total of 962 kg of waste was collected here, of which 200 kg was plastic containers. Plastic waste was handed over for recycling.

The event also contributed to raising the ecological culture of the population.

The waste sector is causing climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental pollution, said the agency's director, Sharifbek Khasanov.

According to him, approximately 19−20 thousand tons of waste are generated throughout the country per day.

Of the 14 million tons of waste collected in 2024, only 5.2 percent was recycled.

"We aim to change public attitudes towards waste," said Zarrina Abdullayeva, Head of Department at the Ministry of Ecology.

He emphasized that it is necessary to keep the environment clean not just every day, but every day.

This event is aimed at calling the general public to environmental activity.

In 2023, on World Cleanliness Day, 36.5 tons of waste were collected in Uzbekistan.

This year, the result was 19.2 tons more.

This is due to the increased participation and activity of the population.
