For the first time in the history of the republic, a complex for the collection and storage of underground household waste has been organized in the city of Samarkand. This was officially reported by the Agency for Waste Management and Development of the Circular Economy.
It is reported that the complex was installed in the "Obod Maskan" neighborhood of the Karasuv massif of the city and currently consists of 2 special semi-underground waste storage boxes. They prevent the scattering of waste, the spread of unpleasant odors on hot days, and the deterioration of sanitary conditions. This is of great importance in creating a comfortable and clean environment for the local population.
The new system is located at a depth of 2 meters, with a total of 4 special containers, 2 in each area. Each of them has a capacity of 3 cubic meters (550 liters) and can serve 1000-1500 people. Officials noted that five more such complexes are planned to be built in the region in the future.
The agency announced that such projects will be implemented in stages not only in Samarkand, but throughout the republic. This is expected to be a big step in reducing environmental problems related to waste, bringing urban infrastructure closer to modern standards, and improving the quality of life of the population.
At the same time, construction of a large plant for generating electricity from waste has begun in Samarkand since July of this year. The project, worth $150 million, will process 1,500 tons of waste per day and generate 240 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.
Ecologists and specialists emphasize that such modern complexes and processing technologies serve to create a comfortable and healthy environment not only for city residents but also for tourists visiting the country.
