Uzbekistan has entered the list of countries with the cheapest internet in the world. According to a report by RIA Novosti, based on data from Russia’s Federal State Statistics Service and various countries, the cost of home internet in our country averages $11.7 per month.
This figure allowed Uzbekistan to rank high among the countries with affordable internet. For comparison, India has the cheapest home internet at $7.7 per month. Romania closes the top three with $9.8. Russia, among major economies, ranks second in terms of cheap internet, with an average cost of $8.7 per month.
Also included in the list of cheapest internet countries are: China ($11.3), Uzbekistan ($11.5), Kazakhstan ($12.7), Turkey ($13.8), Bulgaria ($14.6), and Lithuania ($16.5).
In addition, Poland ($17.2), Georgia ($17.4), Thailand ($18.4), Armenia ($19.1), and Latvia ($19.7) complete the top 15 countries with affordable internet.
At the same time, countries with the most expensive internet were identified. The USA ($72.1), Canada ($61.7), and Luxembourg ($59.1) are at the top of the list. They are followed by Belgium ($56.9), Ireland ($55.1), Australia ($53.6), Germany ($50.7), the Netherlands ($50.6), Portugal ($43), and South Africa ($42.3).
The top 15 countries with the most expensive internet also include the United Kingdom ($42.1), Slovenia ($40.8), Austria and Sweden (both $39.9), and France ($35.3).
However, the cost of the internet is assessed not only by its absolute price but also by its share in people’s incomes. For example, in Brazil, internet expenses account for 4.1% of the average income, in Mexico — 3.8%, and in Argentina — 3.65%. The lowest shares are recorded in Russia (0.67%), Romania (0.9%), and South Korea (0.97%).
Experts note that the affordability of internet prices in Uzbekistan expands access to digital services and contributes to the development of the digital economy in the country. It is also regarded as an important factor in improving the efficiency of education, business, and information exchange.
