A new digital system for consumer protection will be implemented in Uzbekistan. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree "On Measures for the Effective Protection of Consumer Rights" on October 6, official sources reported.
According to the resolution, from March 1, 2026, the sale of products with expired shelf life will be technically impossible. When the QR code of a product with a digital label is scanned, if it has expired, the payment system will be automatically blocked and the sale will not take place.
This measure not only limits the circulation of low-quality products, but also serves to protect consumer health and ensure transparency in the market.
Currently, the digital marking system has been implemented for such goods as tobacco and alcohol products, medicines, household appliances, medical devices, and beverages. More than 115 thousand products are listed in the national catalog.
At the same time, from October 15, 2025, to January 1, 2027, test purchases will be carried out through "mysterious buyers" with the participation of non-governmental organizations. Through this experiment, cases of market violations and consumer rights violations are identified.
In addition, a new electronic platform will be launched from December 1, 2024. It serves to promptly and transparently consider consumer appeals and ensures effective interaction between government agencies, entrepreneurs, and the public.
It is expected that the new system will create a healthy competitive environment in the market, strengthen public confidence, and put an end to the circulation of low-quality products.
