Uzbekistan's population exceeds 38 million: cities are taking precedence

According to the latest data from the National Statistics Committee, as of October 1, 2025, the country's population reached 38 million 69.1 thousand people. This indicator shows stable population growth in Uzbekistan.

According to the distribution, the gender balance in the population is almost equal: the number of women is 18 million 896.6 thousand people (49.6%), and men - 19 million 172.5 thousand people (50.4%). Demographers emphasize that this stable distribution is an important factor in determining the directions of strategy and social policy in the labor market.

Cities gaining dominance

Data indicate that the process of urbanization is consistently continuing. Currently, 19.4 million people live in cities (about 51%), and 18.7 million people live in rural areas (49%).

Experts note that the increasing level of urbanization dramatically increases the demand not only for jobs, but also for housing construction, the transport system, drinking water supply, and sewerage networks. This indicates the need for more in-depth planning of urban infrastructure and efficient resource allocation.

At the same time, the growth of the urban population requires a new approach to solving problems in traffic flow management, environmental monitoring, and energy supply.

Family life numbers

According to the committee, 177,000 marriages were registered during the reporting period, while 35,400 families officially divorced. Although these figures show that the trend of starting a family among young people persists, they also emphasize the need for further development of the system of psychological and social support for families.

According to experts, expanding financial incentives for young families, housing programs, and family psychology counseling services will have a positive impact on the stability of society.

Negative migration balance

At the same time, a negative balance was recorded in terms of external migration: 1,133 people moved to the country, and 7,585 people went abroad. As a result of this indicator, the total net balance was 6,452.

Experts attribute this situation to labor migration, educational opportunities abroad, and a shortage of personnel in areas requiring high qualifications. In particular, the number of qualified specialists in IT, engineering, and medicine abroad has increased significantly in recent years.

Conclusion

Demographic indicators indicate that the population of Uzbekistan is changing not only in terms of size but also in terms of lifestyle and location. The strengthening of urbanization, population balance, and migration trends remain important criteria in determining the country's economic, social, and infrastructural policy.

The new data will serve as a key guideline for planning processes for government agencies and local authorities in the coming years.
