At an international conference held within the framework of UNESCO’s 43rd session, the history of the city of Samarkand was re-evaluated. Based on scientific research and archaeological findings, it was determined that the city’s history is not 2,750 years, as previously stated, but more than 3,000 years.
According to scholars, the first urban culture in the Samarkand region was formed at the beginning of the first millennium BC. The discovered ancient artifacts and written sources show that this area was already one of the most important cultural centers of Central Asia at that time.
Experts emphasized that Samarkand has great importance for the entire history of humanity. UNESCO representatives noted that this result will serve as an impetus for further preservation and in-depth study of the city’s cultural heritage.
The conference also highlighted the importance of preserving Samarkand’s historical monuments, continuing new archaeological research, and passing the city’s ancient appearance on to future generations.
