Up to 20 years in prison for serious drug crimes

Uzbekistan is introducing new and stricter measures in the fight against drug abuse, according to official sources.

Under the new law, severe drug-related crimes — including the creation of drug organizations, cross-border or online distribution, the operation of illegal drug laboratories, and the introduction of narcotic substances into circulation through abuse of authority — are now punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

In addition, individuals who use narcotic substances in public places may face administrative detention of up to 15 days.

Any drug-related offense committed with the involvement of minors or young people will be treated as an aggravating circumstance. Liability has also been increased for the distribution of drugs within educational institutions, student dormitories, or children’s camps.

The new measures aim to reduce drug-related crimes, protect the younger generation, and strengthen public safety in the country.
