Unique murals of the 10th-11th centuries have been found in the Tashkent region

In the territory of the Tashkent region, an archaeological team discovered a find of great historical significance - ancient murals dating back to the 10th-11th centuries AD were restored. This was reported by the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.

According to information, these unique paintings were found in the ruins of a caravanserai located in the ancient city of Qanqa. Archaeologists note that this caravanserai was one of the economic and cultural centers of the city in ancient times. Located approximately 60 meters from its southern gate, the buildings were architecturally richly decorated.

During the excavations, fragments of a painting were found on the walls of one of the caravanserai rooms. They measure 25×30, 15×20, and 30×35 centimeters, indicating that the interior of the building was artistically decorated at a high level for its time. According to experts, this find proves that the art of wall decoration, lost after the Arab campaign, was restored in the Tashkent oasis in the 10th-11th centuries.

Archaeological data indicate that similar decorative paintings were previously found in the monuments of Samarkand and Akhsikent. Now, these findings, which are being studied with the participation of restorers from the Cultural Heritage Agency and the Samarkand Institute of Archaeology, show that there was also a school of wall painting in the Tashkent region.

It should be recalled that in 2023, as a result of research conducted at the Kanka site, a temple and military equipment dating back to the 5th-7th centuries were also discovered. This once again proves that Kanka was not only an important point on trade routes, but also a center of art and culture.
