According to the data of the National Statistics Committee, in the 2024/2025 academic year, more than 381.7 thousand students were admitted to higher education institutions in Uzbekistan. This figure is 2.2 times higher compared to the 2020/2021 academic year, the committee’s press service reported.
In the current academic year, 196.7 thousand of the admitted students are female, and 185 thousand are male. Thus, the number of female students in higher education exceeds that of male students by 12 thousand.
By region, the largest number of students is in Tashkent city — more than 155.2 thousand young people are studying there. It is followed by Bukhara region (31.5 thousand), Tashkent region (27 thousand), and Samarkand region (21.2 thousand).
The lowest number of students is recorded in Syrdarya region — about 5.3 thousand. Relatively small numbers are also observed in Jizzakh (6.3 thousand), Navoi (9.2 thousand), and Andijan (12.5 thousand) regions.
According to experts, the increase in the number of higher education institutions, the expansion of admission quotas, and improved access to education have significantly boosted young people’s interest in higher education.
