Low-income individuals get free legal aid at Constitutional Court

Another significant law aimed at strengthening social protection for the population has been adopted in Uzbekistan. Under the new legal document, low-income citizens applying to the Constitutional Court of Uzbekistan will now have the opportunity to receive legal assistance at the state's expense.

This is because Law No. OʻRQ–1135 (April 20, 2026) introduced several additions and amendments to existing legislation. These changes will primarily create significant conveniences for vulnerable groups in need of legal protection.

According to the new provisions in the law, low-income individuals will have the right to access lawyer and legal consultation services at the state's expense if they file a complaint with the Constitutional Court of Uzbekistan to determine the constitutionality of a law applied by a court in a specific case.

Another important aspect is that the procedure for submitting requests for legal assistance has also been clearly defined. Such requests will now be made through the special 'Legal Aid' information system. The request is sent directly by the court, based on the citizen's application.

This mechanism is expected to make the process more transparent and efficient. At the same time, bureaucratic obstacles in obtaining legal aid will be reduced.

The law came into force from the date of its official announcement. Therefore, utilizing these opportunities has already entered the practical stage.

In short, the new procedure will significantly ease the path to justice for low-income citizens. They will now have a more reliable support in defending their rights.
