US President Donald Trump has ordered the preparation of additional places at the Guantanamo military base to accommodate deported migrants. This was reported on the White House website.
The Departments of Defense and Homeland Security must prepare places for 30,000 people. The Guantanamo military base previously held prisoners of war, including those involved in the September 11 terrorist attacks. Trump said that there are thousands of places at the base in Cuba, which many people are unaware of.
“Guantanamo Bay has 30,000 places to hold the most dangerous illegal criminals who threaten the American people. Some of them are so dangerous that we don’t even believe in returning them to their countries because we don’t want them to come back. That’s why we’re going to send them to Guantanamo Bay,” the US president said.
The military base at Guantanamo Bay is known primarily as a place to hold terrorist suspects. It was opened in 2002 by US President George W. Bush after the September 11, 2001, attacks.
Closing the facility was one of former US President Barack Obama’s key campaign promises, but none of his proposals were approved by Congress. In January 2018, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to keep the prison open. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
