Japan's SoftBank Corporation plans to invest up to $25 billion in American startup OpenAI. This was reported by the Financial Times and CNBC https://www.cnbc.com/2025/01/29/softbank-in-talks-to-invest-up-to-25-billion-in-openai-.html.

According to the FT, such an investment will make SoftBank one of OpenAI's largest financial partners. SoftBank is also participating in the Stargate artificial intelligence project announced by the new US President Donald Trump.

The project is aimed at "developing a new generation of artificial intelligence" and creating big data processing centers, and in the first phase it is planned to invest $ 100 billion. Over the next four years, this amount is expected to be increased to $ 500 billion.

It is reported that SoftBank plans to invest more than $ 15 billion in Stargate, and is also in talks to invest $ 15-25 billion in OpenAI.

According to CNBC, SoftBank has previously invested in OpenAI, but in smaller amounts. Before that, Microsoft invested $ 13 billion in OpenAI. Since the launch of ChatGPT, the company's value has reached $ 157 billion.

Earlier, after the Chinese startup DeepSeek presented a new artificial intelligence model, the stock prices of major technology companies such as Nvidia, OpenAI, Microsoft and Google fell sharply.
