US President Donald Trump said the US will take control of the Gaza Strip. The Republican made the remarks after a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Tuesday, February 4. The press conference was broadcast by the American news agency Associated Press (AP).

Trump on Gaza: "We own it"

"The United States controls the Gaza Strip, we work with it," the White House chief of staff said. "We own it and we will be responsible for dismantling all the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons there."

“If we have to, we will take control of this area, we will develop it, we will create thousands of jobs. This will be something that the entire Middle East can be proud of,” Trump added. Asked who would live there, the Republican said that the Gaza Strip could become home to “the people of the world” and the “Riviera of the Middle East.”

“I see a long-term ownership situation, and I see it as something that will bring great stability to this part of the Middle East,” Trump continued. “I have been looking at it very carefully for many months.” Asked whether he should send US troops to Gaza, Trump said: “We will do what is necessary.”

“I love Israel. I will go there, I will go to Gaza, I will go to Saudi Arabia and other places throughout the Middle East,” the White House chief promised.

Netanyahu took these words positively. According to the Israeli prime minister, Trump "thinks with new ideas" and "demonstrates a willingness to destroy traditional thinking."
