US President Donald Trump said that in the future "Ukraine could become part of Russia." He said this in an interview with FoxNews.
When asked about the supply of American weapons to Ukraine, Trump refused to answer this question. Instead, he considered it unfair that the United States allocates much more aid to Ukraine than other countries.
"They have very valuable land in terms of rare metals, oil and gas, and other resources. I want our money to be safe because we're spending hundreds of billions of dollars [to help Ukraine]. You know, they (Ukraine and Russia) may or may not make a deal. Ukraine may or may not become part of Russia in the future. But we invested in it and I want to get it back," Trump said.
The US president noted that he had already spoken to the Ukrainian leadership on this issue and "they agreed."
"The United States has already invested over $300 billion, probably $350 billion. Europe has invested $100 billion. We have invested twice that much. I told them (the Ukrainian government) that we want something in return, like the equivalent of rare earth metals, and they have basically agreed to that. So at least we don't feel stupid," Trump added.
Ukrainian Resources in Exchange for Security Guarantees
According to Trump, he and Zelensky are looking to reach a $500 million deal to give American investors access to rare earth and gas fields in Ukraine in exchange for security guarantees in a future peace treaty with Russia.
The idea of giving the West the right to extract minerals from Ukraine was also mentioned in Zelensky’s “victory plan” presented to then-US presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in the fall of 2024.
On February 3, Trump began talking about this option again, which caused a huge uproar among Western politicians and the media. On February 7, Zelensky said in an interview with Reuters that the United States would have priority in developing Ukraine’s natural resources because “the Americans have helped more than anyone else.” Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
