Israel and the United States intend to confront Iran's nuclear ambitions and "aggressive actions" in the Middle East. This was announced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Rubio visited Israel for the first time since taking office. According to Netanyahu, he discussed a number of issues with him, "none of which were more important than Iran."

Iran "must not have nuclear weapons"

"We agreed that the ayatollahs should not have nuclear weapons, and that Iran's aggressive actions in the region should stop," the Israeli prime minister said.

Rubio, on the other hand, stressed that Iran is “behind every terrorist group” in the region and “threatens peace and stability for millions of people who call this region home.” Netanyahu expressed confidence that “under the strong leadership of President Trump,” Israel will “finish the job” against Iran. He also called Trump “Israel’s greatest friend in the White House.”

Rubio: US will closely monitor the situation in Syria

Commenting on the political situation in Syria, the US Secretary of State assessed the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime as “promising,” but at the same time emphasized that “replacing one destabilizing force with another is not a positive development.”

“We will monitor this situation very closely,” Rubio said.

In turn, Netanyahu said that he would not allow “other hostile forces,” primarily Iran, to use Syria as a “base for operations against Israel.” He recalled that the Israel Defense Forces had carried out “hundreds of strikes” on targets in Syria.

“Joint Strategy” on the Gaza Strip

In addition, Netanyahu announced a “joint strategy” between the two countries on the Gaza Strip.

“We discussed Trump’s bold vision for the future of the Gaza Strip and we will work to implement this vision,” he said.

Earlier, Trump said that he intended to relocate the entire population of the Gaza Strip and bring the territory under US control, turning it into a “river of the Middle East.”

Marco Rubio, meanwhile, called for the destruction of Hamas, stressing that the organization “cannot exist as a military or governmental force.”
