US President Donald Trump said that Volodymyr Zelensky does not have to participate in negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war. He emphasized this in an interview with Fox News Radio.
According to Trump, the Ukrainian president has been "in meetings" for the past three years and has not yet been able to resolve the conflict.
"Honestly, his participation in the meetings is not very important. Zelensky said that he was not invited to the meeting in Saudi Arabia ... I mean, it was not a priority, because he has been conducting negotiations poorly so far," Trump said.
He also said that former US President Joe Biden and Zelensky could have prevented the war.
"Every time I say, 'It's not Russia's fault,' I get criticized for being fake news, but what I'm saying is that Biden said the wrong things, Zelensky said the wrong things, they were attacked by a much stronger and larger party. But Russia could have been turned back much easier," Trump said.
After the Russian-American talks in Riyadh, Donald Trump sharply criticized Zelensky. According to the US president, Zelensky's rating among Ukrainians has fallen, and Trump also called him a "dictator" and called for presidential elections in Ukraine.
According to Politico, US President Donald Trump's openly harsh comments about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are not related to Washington's turn to Russia, but rather a way to pressure Kiev to reach an agreement on the mines.
