Zelensky says "no" to Trump again: "I will not sign an agreement that will cost ten generations of Ukraine"
Today we will talk again about the mineral resources agreement that Donald Trump is demanding that Ukrainian President Zelensky sign. Trump is demanding that the Biden administration give the United States half of the profits from the country's rare metals trade in exchange for weapons it sends to Ukraine. Zelensky, however, refused to sign the agreement, saying that this would be selling Ukraine out. New news has emerged about this agreement.

“Zelensky shouted at US minister”

According to the Financial Times, one of the most reliable sources of economic news, Zelensky shouted back at US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant, who had conveyed Trump’s desire to gain control over Ukraine’s minerals. The publication’s sources heard shouting from inside the closed-door meeting.

According to the sources, Zelensky shouted at US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant after he apparently ordered President Zelensky to sign the deal Trump was asking for quickly. The US minister explained during the meeting that Washington wants to receive half of the money from the sale of rare metals in Ukraine for years, as well as control over the country’s gas, oil reserves, and commercial ports. Zelensky said that he would not sign a deal that would cost Ukraine generations.

Journalists noted that the American minister was visibly nervous and his hands were shaking during a press conference with Zelensky. Speaking about the meeting with Minister Scott, Zelensky said that he would discuss the agreement proposed by Trump with Vice President Vance in Munich.

Earlier, Trump said that Zelensky had been rude to him during a meeting with the US Treasury Secretary.

"The agreement will be signed this week"

The media reported that Zelensky had rejected the next offer from the Americans and refused to sign an agreement on mineral resources. Zelensky's latest statements confirm this information. However, Trump's special representative Steve Witkoff said that the parties would sign the agreement this week: "I think the agreement will be signed this week. President Trump has sent a signal to Zelensky that he can no longer hesitate," Witkoff said.

Trump's national security adviser Mike Waltz also said that Kiev and Washington are close to an agreement and that it will be signed soon.

However, Volodymyr Zelensky denied these claims at a major press conference in Kyiv on February 23. He said that the deal Trump is talking about means that Ukraine will return two dollars for every dollar it receives. “I will not sign an agreement that will make ten generations of Ukrainians pay for it,” Zelensky said.

It turns out that Zelensky will not sign the agreement because it only lists Ukraine’s obligations. Zelensky is asking the US for security guarantees and an agreement “on somewhat fair terms.” The Ukrainian president also intends to sign the agreement only during a one-on-one meeting with Donald Trump, before the US president meets with Putin.
