Negotiations between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky may resume, but for this Zelensky must fulfill a number of conditions set by the White House. This was stated by White House National Security Advisor Mike Walz in an interview with Fox News.
What is required of Zelensky?
According to Walz, the Ukrainian president must agree to comply with the following conditions:
1️⃣ Recognize that he regrets the events that occurred at the February 28 meeting.
2️⃣ Sign an agreement on mineral resources.
3️⃣ Express his readiness to participate in peace talks.
"We need to hear from Zelensky that he is ready for peace talks. We are not asking for much from him," said Walz.
The United States will not provide unlimited assistance to Ukraine
Walz noted that the United States has provided Ukraine with a large amount of military and economic assistance, but this support will not last forever.
"It is clear that Zelensky is not ready to talk about peace talks. But the problem is that time is not on his side. America's patience and economic capabilities are not unlimited," the adviser said.
Walz also accused some Democrats and international leaders of choosing a scenario reminiscent of the conflicts during World War I. In his opinion, the United States is not ready for unlimited military actions in Ukraine and the conflict should be resolved more quickly through diplomatic means.
Economic agreement and Washington-Kiev relations
The White House representative criticized the failure to sign an economic agreement on resources between Ukraine and the United States. He believes that this agreement could unite Kiev and Washington economically. However, as Walz noted, Zelensky "looked like he was going to wink and wink" due to the disagreement in the White House.
How does Zelensky feel about the negotiations?
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he does not want to talk about the disagreement with Trump.
"I do not think that we should continue to have strong relations in this format. I am sure that this situation will be left behind, and there are more important things ahead. If we all continue to be constructive, I think we will achieve a positive result," he told reporters in London.
Despite the fact that the talks between Trump and Zelensky have stalled again, the White House is ready to continue this process. However, for this to happen, Zelensky must support peace negotiations and agree to strengthen economic cooperation with the United States.
At the same time, the Ukrainian leadership currently prefers a constructive approach to relations between Washington and Kiev. Therefore, whether negotiations between the two countries will resume or not depends on Zelensky's subsequent decisions.
