Since the start of Russia's large-scale war against Ukraine, more than 30,000 Ukrainians have been deprived of refugee status in Switzerland, the country's State Secretariat for Migration said. This is an increase of 199 people compared to the beginning of the month.
"Monday, March 17 - current figures... 30,918 people have been revoked from S-status," the message on the X social network says. More than 68,000 Ukrainians have actively retained this status. This is 133 more people than on March 3.
In late November, the National Conservative Party (UDC), which holds the majority in the Swiss parliament, opposed the provision of multi-billion-dollar aid to Ukraine. Representatives of the UDC expressed the same opinion on the issue of granting refugee status to Ukrainians.
“Switzerland has granted temporary protection to 65,000 Ukrainians using S-status. Since then, almost 3 billion francs have been spent on these measures… Despite this staggering amount, the Federal Council is requesting an additional 185 million francs in loans,” the report says.
It should be recalled that in September 2024, the Norwegian government announced that it would stop granting automatic asylum to all Ukrainians. Now, applications from refugees from the western regions of Ukraine - Lviv, Volyn, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Rivne and Transcarpathia - are being considered separately.
