Putin proposes temporary international administration in Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed introducing temporary external administration in Ukraine under the auspices of the UN. In his opinion, this would allow the country to hold fair and stable elections and form a government that the people trust.

Is a new government needed in Ukraine?

Putin noted that Ukraine is currently in a state of political uncertainty, and in such conditions, Russia will not be able to find a clear partner for concluding a peace treaty.

🔹 "It is not clear with whom what should be signed, because tomorrow other leaders may arrive," Putin said at a meeting with the crew of the Arkhangelsk nuclear submarine.

🔹 In his opinion, the current civilian government in Ukraine is illegitimate, because presidential elections have not been held in the country.

Putin noted that this proposal is not the only solution, but noted that such approaches exist in UN practice.

Relations between Ukraine and the West

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Kiev officials have opposed Putin's opinion, stating that the government is operating in accordance with the Constitution without any violations of the law. According to the Ukrainian Constitution, the incumbent president can remain in office until new elections are held.

🔹 Former US President Donald Trump also said that elections should be held in Ukraine.

🔹 The head of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, Oleg Didenko, stated that the war must end and martial law must be lifted in order to hold elections.

Zelensky expressed his readiness to resign voluntarily in February this year, if necessary to establish peace or join NATO.

The Russian side assessed the current political situation in Ukraine as a form of governance under Western influence and expressed its readiness to hold negotiations with the international community in a new format.
