Although the relations between Russia and the United States of America seemed extremely tense until recently, in reality, the two countries are neither enemies nor friends. This was emphasized by the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, during his speech at the federal educational marathon "Knowledge.First".
According to Medvedev, the two largest nuclear powers in the world must cooperate; otherwise, instability across the globe is inevitable.
"Such two major nuclear states as the Russian Federation and the United States are obliged to cooperate. If this does not happen, the entire world could fall into a state of complete instability," — warned Dmitry Medvedev in his speech.
Medvedev also described the new U.S. president Donald Trump as a bright and extraordinary personality. In his opinion, the Trump administration, beyond its charisma, consists of professional and experienced politicians, which improves the prospects for dialogue between Russia and the United States.
"This cautiously raises hope for the possibility of dialogue. In my view, European leaders have become spineless, weak, and turned into puppets," — said Medvedev.
At the same time, he emphasized that it is necessary to be careful about clearly equating relations between Russia and the United States to hostility.
"We are not friends with the United States, but we should not be complete enemies either. Although recently, due to hybrid wars and other political confrontations, it seemed that we had truly become enemies, there is now hope that the situation is beginning to change," — explained Medvedev.
After Donald Trump was elected president, the leaders of the two countries had several telephone conversations. In particular, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump spoke twice by phone, discussing issues aimed at improving bilateral relations. Furthermore, negotiations are ongoing at the level of diplomats and experts with the aim of normalizing relations between Russia and the United States.
On April 12, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also expressed confidence in the possibility of developing relations with the United States. According to him, unlike the period of the Joe Biden administration, which was characterized by hostile attitudes towards Russia, currently a somewhat more straightforward, but necessary dialogue has been initiated.
The Press Secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, likewise emphasized that the two heads of state must not abandon dialogue, noting that preparations are underway for a possible personal meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
Although the exact date and place of the meeting have not yet been announced, both sides have expressed their readiness for effective and constructive dialogue. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
