A very unusual traffic accident occurred in Texas - an armored truck overturned and eight million 10-cent coins were scattered along the highway, the New York Post reported.
The traffic accident occurred on the morning of April 29, at around 05:15 near the city of Alvord, Texas. It was reported that the truck, belonging to the US Mint, was transporting more than 36 tons of newly minted coins.
Sgt. Jose De La Cerda, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, said the driver lost control of the vehicle while making a turn, veered off the road, and the vehicle overturned.
The driver and his passenger suffered minor injuries. They were taken to the hospital without serious injuries. However, the highway was closed for 14 hours due to the millions of coins scattered on the road.
Among the special equipment used to clean the road were vacuum trucks used for cleaning sewers. Some workers had to collect the coins by hand or with ordinary shovels.
The armored truck belonged to a company that delivers goods to banks and government agencies. According to the company's website, such vehicles are not only armored, but also accompanied by armed guards.
After the accident, rumors spread in the city that “8 million dollars were scattered.” However, according to official data, the total value of the coins was approximately 800 thousand dollars.
This event became an unexpected event not only for the driver and security guards, but also for the entire city. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
