American woman missing for 63 years found: details of mysterious incident revealed

Audrey Bakeberg, an American woman who disappeared nearly 63 years ago, has been found alive and well. This was reported by the Sheriff’s Office of Sauk County, Wisconsin, as noted by The Guardian.

Audrey vanished in July 1962, when she was just 20 years old and lived in Reedsburg, a small town in Wisconsin. Investigators believed she may have left voluntarily, but the reasons for her disappearance remained mysterious.

Reportedly, Audrey married Ronald Bakeberg at age 15. They had two children, but their relationship deteriorated. Before vanishing, she had filed a complaint in court, claiming abuse and threats from her husband, but disappeared before the case was heard.

She was last seen heading to her former workplace to collect her paycheck, accompanied by her children’s 14-year-old nanny. They traveled to Madison, the state capital. Audrey then sent the nanny back and boarded a bus to Indianapolis, after which she was never heard from again.

Investigators explored multiple theories, but the case remained unsolved and was eventually closed.

In early 2025, during a review of cold cases, a genealogical website led authorities to Audrey’s sister's profile, sparking a breakthrough. Audrey was found living in another state, though her location is not disclosed. She reportedly started a new life and has no regrets.

Detective Isaac Henson confirmed that Audrey had lived a quiet and peaceful life and is in good health.
