A major change in the US army: it was decided to significantly reduce the number of generals

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has made a major decision as part of his broad campaign to reduce the country's military spending. According to him, the number of generals and admirals serving at the high command level in the United States Armed Forces will be significantly reduced.

According to official data from the Department of Defense, this reduction will primarily affect the Chiefs of Staff, the National Guard generals and the Joint Command system. In particular, generals and admirals, who make up 20 percent of the total staff, will be dismissed. In addition, 20 percent of the senior personnel in the National Guard and another 10 percent of the Joint Command system will be reorganized.

According to the latest data provided by the Department of Defense, as of March 31, 2025, there will be 38 high-ranking commanders - generals and admirals - in the US Army. Among them are the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the chiefs of staff of the armed forces, the heads of the European and African commands, and the commanders of US forces on the Korean Peninsula.

Interestingly, Hegseth did not disclose the exact names of those who will be dismissed from their posts. However, this decision indicates that major reforms have begun in the Pentagon.

It should be recalled that during the administration of former US President Donald Trump, a number of high-ranking military personnel were also removed from their posts. Among them were such high-ranking individuals as Lieutenant General Jennifer Short, Admiral Lisa Franchetti and Admiral Linda Fagan. Also, in early 2024, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Charles Brown, was also dismissed.

Along with this process, for the first time in US history, the military budget is planned to exceed one trillion dollars. The White House has set itself the goal of creating a new missile defense system called "Golden Dome", increasing the number of warships and strengthening nuclear capabilities in the coming years.
