Ukraine exposes secret network of Hungarian military intelligence

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced that for the first time in the country's history, it had uncovered a secret network of Hungarian military intelligence. The SBU issued a special statement about this, noting that the exposed espionage network posed a serious threat to the country's national security.

According to the SBU, this intelligence network operated in the Transcarpathian region. They were engaged in determining the coordinates of the S-300 air defense systems located in this region, as well as identifying vulnerabilities in the system. In addition, these agents carefully studied the socio-political views of the local population and tried to determine their attitude to a possible Hungarian military invasion.

The Ukrainian security services also noted that this network systematically collected information about the losses of the country's armed forces in the ongoing war with Russia and the situation on the front. As part of this intelligence activity, two people were detained. One of them is a 40-year-old Ukrainian former soldier, who was reportedly recruited by Hungarian military intelligence in 2021 and then put on “standby mode”. Their handler is said to be a high-ranking official in Hungarian military intelligence.

The incident also sparked a diplomatic row in international relations. According to Reuters, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó called the information published by Ukraine “Ukrainian propaganda” and stressed that it should be treated with caution.

However, Szijjártó announced that two Ukrainian diplomats suspected of espionage would soon be expelled from Hungary. This could further escalate the situation between the two countries.

According to experts, this incident is likely to have a serious impact on diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Hungary. The international community is currently closely monitoring the further development of the situation.
