US President Donald Trump has said he is ready to hold a trilateral meeting with the leaders of Ukraine and Russia, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, if necessary, to end the long-standing military conflict between Ukraine and Russia. He said this during a conversation with reporters at the White House.
One of the journalists asked Trump, "Do you still think Putin wants to end the war?" In response to this question, the US president said that he is conducting talks with Russia through his special representative Steve Witkoff.
"He is having very strong talks. But I can't give a specific opinion on that right now. But in about two weeks we will find out what Putin is up to. If he is pushing us to do something, we will also reconsider our attitude," Trump said.
Trump also expressed his regret at the recent "deaths of people during the so-called negotiations process," and noted that any peace initiative can be complicated in such situations.
The president was also asked why sanctions against Russia have not been imposed yet. Trump explained this by saying that he made such a decision in order not to disrupt a possible peace agreement.
— If necessary, I am ready to meet with Putin and Zelensky, — he added.
It is worth noting that earlier, Ukrainian President Zelensky also proposed organizing a trilateral meeting with Putin and Trump. In response, the Kremlin said that such meetings can only take place if the two delegations create a platform for concrete agreements and effective results.
At the same time, the issue of peace negotiations is again rising to the top of the political agenda. Any real diplomatic steps from the opposing sides can affect the fate of millions of people. Donald Trump's readiness for a meeting can open a new path for a possible peace process. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
