North Korean leader Kim Jong-un expressed his readiness to continue to firmly support the Russian Federation in the armed conflict in Ukraine during a meeting with Russian Security Council Chairman Sergei Shoigu in Pyongyang, the DPRK's main news agency KCNA reported on June 4.
Kim Jong-un stressed his "full and unconditional" support for Russia's position on major global political issues and expressed his readiness to support its foreign policy related to Ukraine.
"The DPRK leadership views Russia's special military operation in Ukraine as a "just and holy struggle" and sincerely wishes Russia victory in this regard," Kim was quoted as saying in the KCNA news agency.
During the meeting, the North Korean leader and Russian Security Council Chairman Shoigu also discussed in detail the military operations in the Kursk region. It particularly highlighted the heroism of the DPRK soldiers in the battles against the Armed Forces of Ukraine, together with the Russian military.
“The courage and selflessness of the North Korean soldiers, who, standing side by side with the Russian soldiers, participated in the operation to liberate the Kursk region, and defended these lands, which are part of the Russian territory, as if they were their own homeland, will never be forgotten,” the KCNA report specifically emphasizes.
At the same time, the press service of the Russian Security Council also reported on the meeting, stating that Russia and North Korea jointly discussed “practical measures to perpetuate the memory of the Korean soldiers.”
It should be noted that the strategic partnership between Russia and the DPRK was strengthened by the agreement signed during Vladimir Putin’s official visit to Pyongyang on June 19, 2024. According to this agreement, if one of the two countries is attacked by armed aggression, the other country undertakes to provide it with military and other necessary assistance.
This meeting is another confirmation of the rapprochement between North Korea and Russia, causing a huge stir in the international political arena. In particular, the DPRK's open support for Russia in the war in Ukraine is expected to be sharply criticized by Western countries. However, such cooperation between the two countries will undoubtedly create new situations in international politics. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
