What will be Russia’s response to “Spider Web”?

What will be Russia’s response to “Spider Web”?
In the “Geopolitics” weekly, political analysts discussed Russia’s response to Ukraine’s special operation “Spider Web”.

Abduvali Soibnazarov: I believe the June 6 attack by Russia using over 400 drones can be interpreted as a retaliatory strike. Of course, these strikes are less sensational than the previous ones. Perhaps the phone call with Donald Trump also played a role. I think Putin is more concerned about Trump’s pressure than threats from Europe or NATO.

For instance, several U.S. senators are currently drafting a bill that would impose 500% tariffs on goods imported from countries that buy oil, gas, or uranium from Russia. If this law is passed, it will be a serious blow to the Kremlin.

Bektosh Berdiev: I disagree that Russia’s strike was a response to “Spider Web”. That logic is flawed. Ukraine’s attack on five airfields was itself a reaction to Russia’s constant missile attacks since 2022. Russia is simply continuing its regular warfare.

Yes, Russia still has tanks, ammunition, howitzers, and military equipment, but it cannot achieve results that would drastically change the situation at the front. So don’t expect sensational counterstrikes — the war will go on as usual.

Zokir Usmonov: Indeed, Russia did not deliver serious blows, as significant strikes usually come from Tu-95 or Tu-160 bombers. Ukraine’s operation limited that capability. Also, Zelensky stated: “If Russia continues this way, more strikes will follow.” Russia didn’t take the risk, especially after Medinsky’s harsh remarks about Ukraine at the talks in Turkey.

In Russia’s view, the main opponent is the U.S., and Trump seemed to leave Ukraine on its own. Kyiv carried out an independent operation and showed it could act. As a result, Russia’s strategic aviation suffered heavy losses.

Shukhrat Rasul: As a result of “Spider Web”, Ukraine destroyed part of Russia’s nuclear triad. Some Ukrainian activists say this is only the first phase — more is coming. Recently, leaked documents about Russia’s nuclear infrastructure appeared online (documents published in June 2025 indicate expanded infrastructure, placement and reinforcement of Avangard hypersonic missiles in the Yasny area – editor). Russia has not commented on the leak, possibly fearing the next targets.

Ukraine’s next target might be submarines. Even Russian activists are discussing this.

During the broadcast, analysts also discussed the latest developments in the Trump–Musk feud, the drone capabilities of both countries, and major topics of the week, such as Azerbaijan’s “Contract of the Century”.
