The tense situation in the Middle East has taken another serious turn: on the night of June 15, Israeli fighter jets launched airstrikes on strategic facilities in the Iranian capital, Tehran - the Shahron oil storage facility and the Iranian Defense Ministry building. This was reported by the Tasnim agency and international media.
According to local sources, the main target of these attacks was the headquarters of the Defense Ministry and one of the office buildings was clearly damaged. Following the attack, a massive fire broke out at the city's main fuel storage facility - the Shahron oil storage facility. According to witnesses to The New York Times, the explosion felt like an earthquake to local residents.
According to Tasnim, two fuel storage tanks were completely burned as a result of the attack on this oil storage facility. Representatives of the Iranian Oil Ministry reported that rescuers have brought the fire under control and there is no danger to the population. Meanwhile, there were reports of a fire at a Tehran oil refinery, but the official government denied this information.
Over the past two days, the military confrontation between Israel and Iran has escalated. According to the Israeli army, about 150 strikes have been launched on Iranian territory since June 13. Earlier, Israel struck nuclear facilities, air defense systems and critical military infrastructure, and in the last two days it has also launched attacks on energy facilities, including gas and oil storage facilities.
In response, Iran has intensified its response, announcing that it has launched more than 200 ballistic missiles and dozens of drones at Israel. The confrontation between the opposing sides has caused a huge number of casualties and extensive destruction.
Iranian officials confirmed that 78 people were killed in the June 13 attacks, and at least 60 in a rocket attack on a residential building in Tehran on June 14. According to Reuters, at least 11 people were killed in Israel as a result of Iranian strikes, most of them during the strikes on the night of June 15.
The situation is currently extremely complicated. Both countries are trying to protect their strategic facilities and respond to the constant attacks. This new phase of the conflict in the Middle East is causing serious concern in the international community. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
