At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin once again attracted the attention of the world community with his statements. He was asked about those who criticize: “Russia did not support Iran, therefore it is an unreliable ally.”
Putin sharply condemned such views and statements, calling those spreading them “instigators.” “Spreading myths that Russia is an unreliable ally is incitement. But these actions will bring them no benefit, they will not achieve their goals,” he said. According to the president, every conflict in today’s world has its own characteristics, and it is wrong to evaluate all problems in the same way.
Earlier, commenting on the disputes between Israel and Iran, Putin said that Russia maintains dialogue and cooperation with both countries, and that Moscow respects both Iran’s right to a peaceful nuclear program and Israel’s desire to ensure its national security.
It should be noted that Iran has been a member of BRICS since 2024, and since 2023 — a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Russia plays a leading role in both of these major regional associations. However, as Putin emphasized, these organizations are not military blocs; their main purpose is to develop economic and political partnership.
At the same time, in the war between Russia and Ukraine, the Iranian side provides military support to Moscow, in particular by supplying “Shahed” combat drones, as has often been reported by international media. This indicates that relations between the two countries are even stronger.
Every step on the world political stage, especially debates about Russia’s allied status and its mutual relations, will undoubtedly be the subject of many discussions. However, Putin’s current statements show that Russia is expressing its interests and its attitude towards international partners clearly and openly. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
