Israeli military says it killed two Iranian Revolutionary Guard commanders
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Saturday that Israeli forces had killed a senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' foreign arm in a strike on an apartment in Iran's Qom province.

According to him, the commander, Saeed Izadi, led the Palestine Corps of the overseas Quds Force.

Later, the Israeli military announced that another commander of the IRGC's foreign arm, Benham Shariyari, was also killed. He died during an overnight strike on his vehicle in western Tehran.

According to the Israeli army, Shariyari “was responsible for all weapons transfers from the Iranian regime to its proxies across the Middle East.”

He reportedly supplied rockets and missiles used in attacks on Israel to Hezbollah, Hamas, and Yemen’s Houthis.

There has been no confirmation from the IRGC regarding the killing of the two commanders.

According to sources, the Quds Force established a network of Iran-aligned Arab groups known as the “Axis of Resistance,” founded Hezbollah in Lebanon in 1982, and supported the radical Islamist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

However, this Iran-aligned network has suffered significant losses over the past two years. Following Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel, Israeli strikes have considerably weakened both Hamas and Hezbollah.

Katz stated that Izadi financially and militarily supported Hamas during the initial attacks. He called his killing “a major success for Israeli intelligence and the Air Force.”

Izadi was sanctioned by the U.S. and the U.K. due to his connections with Hamas and another Palestinian militant group — Islamic Jihad — which also participated in the October 7 attacks.
