USA launched attack on Iran
The Fordo nuclear facility, previously unreachable by Israeli strikes, was attacked this time by the US using modern B-2 bombers designed to destroy underground bunkers. With this action, the Americans effectively joined the Israeli-led operations. The US President stated: “Now is the time for peace.”

US President Donald Trump announced that the country’s military aviation launched airstrikes on three major nuclear facilities in Iran — Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. According to him, “all necessary bombs” were dropped on the main point of the Fordo complex. He shared this on his personal Truth Social page.

“We carried out a very effective strike on three major nuclear targets in Iran,” Trump wrote in his post.

According to the president, all planes involved in the strike have now exited Iranian airspace and are returning to US military bases.

“All planes are heading home. We congratulate our brave American fighters! No army in the world could do this. Now is the time for peace!” said Trump.

In a follow-up post, he described this event as a “historic moment” for the US, Israel, and the world. “Iran must now agree to stop the war,” he added.

BBC News and CNN reported that Trump also shared a post on his page stating: “Fordo no longer exists.”

According to Axios, Israel was notified in advance of the planned strikes on Iran. An Israeli official confirmed that B-2 bombers were used in the attack. An American official also confirmed this to Reuters. CNN reported that Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by phone after the strikes.

Fox News stated that US forces dropped six bunker-buster bombs on the Fordo nuclear facility and launched 30 Tomahawk missiles at sites in Isfahan and Natanz.

Shortly after, Iranian officials also confirmed the attacks. Deputy Director of Political Affairs of Iranian state TV, Hasan Abedini, said in a live broadcast that the three nuclear sites had been “evacuated earlier.” He stated that the strikes caused no significant damage since important materials had already been removed.

The Tasnim news agency, citing a local official in Qom province, reported that part of the Fordo nuclear complex was hit. “Qom’s air defense system was activated hours ago; after identifying enemy targets, part of the Fordo facility was struck,” said an official from the Qom Emergency Response Headquarters. Deputy Governor of Isfahan province, Akbar Salihi, also confirmed that explosions were heard in Natanz and Isfahan and attacks occurred near nuclear sites.

According to CNN sources, Trump hopes that the strikes will pressure Tehran into returning to negotiations, so he is not planning new attacks for now. Sources said that in recent days, Trump became increasingly convinced of the need to use military force to eliminate Iran’s hardened nuclear sites. He believed that diplomacy had reached a dead end and decided to act.

For reference: the Fordo uranium enrichment facility was built in the 2000s at a base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. It is located about 20 km northeast of Qom, 90 meters deep in a mountain. In 2025, Iran began constructing a similar underground facility in Natanz, which is expected to start operating soon. This site will host centrifuge production and likely high-level uranium enrichment. Also, one day before the June 13 Israeli strikes, Iran announced the opening of another centrifuge facility in Isfahan.

White House officials said on June 19 that the US President would make a decision within two weeks on joining further strikes against Iran.
