In the French capital, a very unusual and dangerous attempt at sabotage was thwarted. Paris police detained seven far-left activists who intended to disrupt the prestigious air show in Le Bourget.
These activists chose a bizarre yet dangerous method — using hundreds of helium balloons to interfere with the airspace.
According to the investigation, among the equipment confiscated from the activists were about 200 balloons and special helium tanks. Their plan was to be implemented in two stages. The first attempt was scheduled for Friday, when the air show opened to the general public. At this time, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, was also expected to attend the event. However, the first attempt failed, as Macron was in Canada for the G7 summit.
The second attempt was planned for the afternoon on Saturday, with the aim of temporarily blocking the airspace using the balloons. However, French internal affairs agencies managed to uncover the actions in time and succeeded in detaining the suspects on June 20 and 21.
According to the information available, these activists opposed the participation of Israeli military companies at the air show. They considered this a powerful way to express their viewpoint.
Currently, the suspects are being held in custody and, according to French law, may be charged with “endangering airspace and the movement of aircraft.”
