
The southeastern Turkish province of Mardin has once again made headlines due to a tragic incident. A mass brawl between two groups on Cumhuriyet Boulevard in the Midyat district resulted in the loss of a life.
During the brawl and knife fight, 42-year-old prison guard Faruk Akish attempted to flee the scene. After taking several steps, he lost his balance and fell onto the road. Tragically, at that very moment, a passing minibus ran over him. Akish sustained severe injuries and was quickly transported to the hospital, but despite doctors' efforts, he could not be saved.
The entire incident was captured by nearby security cameras. The footage clearly shows Akish falling and being caught under the vehicle’s wheels. He received first aid on the scene, but succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
According to initial reports, the brawl began between a local businessman and his employees for reasons yet unknown. Police are conducting a comprehensive investigation. The driver of the minibus has been detained, and the vehicle’s license plate has been identified.
After an autopsy, Faruk Akish’s body was handed over to his family and laid to rest. Officials have launched a broad investigation, stating that those responsible will be held accountable.
The incident sparked widespread discussion among Mardin residents, particularly concerning public safety and the regulation of large gatherings.
