Al‑Sharaa: efforts begun to stop Israeli aggression

The new political leadership in Syria has taken an important and serious step on the international stage. According to a statement from President Ahmad al‑Sharaa, the state is directly conducting negotiations to halt Israel’s aggressive actions in southwestern areas, syriaTV.com reports.

Specifically, talks are being held through international mediators. Al‑Sharaa emphasized that every possible means is being used to ensure peace and stability. According to him, the government's primary task is to secure the safety of civilians and resolve regional conflicts through political means.

The Syrian president also paid special attention to dialogue with local communities. During a meeting with Druze community leaders from al‑Quneitra and the Golan Heights, recent Israeli incursions and airstrikes were thoroughly analyzed. They noted that these actions seriously affected the living conditions and security environment of the local population.

Additionally, there are reports that the UAE has established a secret communication channel for these negotiations. It is also confirmed that Israel’s National Security Council head, Sakhi Hanegbi, is personally participating in these discussions.

It is known that Syria–Israel relations sharply deteriorated in February 2025 after clashes near Damascus in Jaramana. The Israeli government accused the new administration of pressuring ethnic and religious minorities. On April 30, the Israeli army carried out an airstrike in Syria against an "extremist cell", claiming it was preparing an attack on Druze, which further intensified the tension.
