Several of them crashed into a 21-story residential building in the city center. This caused not only a powerful explosion but also fires on several floors.
According to the Emergency Service, after the strike, intense fires broke out on the 7th, 8th, and 9th floors. Some residents were trapped inside their apartments. Search and rescue operations continued for several hours.
One of the saddest pieces of news is that an entire family was destroyed as a result of the attack. According to Odesa regional military administration head Oleh Kiper, a man and his wife died in the drone strike. Their bodies were found by rescuers under the rubble.
The number of injured reached six. Among them are two minors. The first child is 7 years old and received moderate injuries. The second is 3 years old and was hospitalized due to smoke inhalation and poisoning from combustion products.
Odesa authorities assess the attack as a terrorist act directed against civilians. They emphasized that there were no weapons or military facilities in the buildings at the time of the attack.
Such attacks have recently become one of the tactical methods frequently used by Russia. According to Ukrainian officials, the drones launched by Russia are mostly Iranian-made "Shahed" types. Their main purpose is to weaken civilians and the country’s infrastructure.
This incident in Odesa once again showed how high the danger is for the civilian population in Ukraine. It also confirmed that Russia's military actions continue not only on the front lines but also in peaceful cities.
At the moment, search and rescue operations are ongoing. The attacked apartments are being thoroughly inspected to determine if there are more victims. Emergency services and special equipment are on duty in high-risk fire zones.
Among the population of Odesa, deep grief and anxiety prevail. People are considering not leaving their homes and relocating to safer places. Some residents are asking for protective equipment and help via Telegram and Facebook.
According to Odesa residents, this is the third drone attack on the city in the past two weeks. Last week, port and infrastructure facilities were also hit, and several people were injured.
In conclusion, it is becoming increasingly clear that Russia’s military actions pose a threat to every household and every family in Ukraine. The international community must take a firmer stance. To prevent such tragedies, it is vital to uphold peace and international law and to take action to prevent the number of casualties from rising. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
