Brazilian President Lula da Silva made a statement that has caused serious debate on the international stage, reports Folha de S.Paulo. According to him, US President Donald Trump’s threats to impose additional tariffs on BRICS countries and their partners are considered irresponsible and dangerous.
Speaking to journalists, Lula da Silva said: "In my opinion, it is neither serious nor responsible for the president of a country like the United States of America to threaten peace and global cooperation over the internet."
The Brazilian leader also emphasized that if the US imposes tariffs or economic restrictions, BRICS countries and their partners have every right to take their own protective measures. In his view, global trade and economic relations should be based not on threats and pressure, but on negotiations and mutual respect.
According to officials, such statements by Trump may lead to new tensions in international economic relations. Experts also expect Brazil and BRICS countries to take a firm position against US pressure.
