Record Price Paid for ‘Lucky Number’ in China

In China, an extremely rare and symbolically important mobile phone number — 15177777777 — was sold for a record price. According to Kursiv.media, the number was purchased via the Ali Auction online platform for 3.2 million yuan, which is approximately 440,000 US dollars.

The number was offered by China Mobile, one of the country's largest mobile operators. Due to containing eight consecutive sevens, it has been classified as a 12th-level "lucky number" in China. In traditional Chinese culture, the number seven is regarded as a symbol of luck and success.

Interestingly, the buyer does not obtain full ownership of the number, but instead receives the right to use it for 20 years. As per the agreement, the buyer is required to pay 1,500 yuan per month (around $206) during this period.

Moreover, the number can only be officially transferred to another person after five years. Any subsequent transfer also requires a minimum 5-year wait.
