Aerospace experts report: Is Germany powerless against drone threats?

In recent times, European countries have been facing serious challenges in terms of security. Leading aerospace experts in Germany have openly acknowledged that the country’s ability to defend against enemy drones is extremely limited, reports dw.com.

In an “urgent letter” sent to the government by the Federal Association of the German Aerospace Industry (BDLI), it is emphasized that both legal and technical capabilities in this field are insufficient. A systematic approach, coordinated cooperation, and innovative defense solutions against drones have yet to be fully implemented in the country.

According to the association, in recent weeks, illegal drone flights have occurred over the Manching military airfield, and effective countermeasures could not be taken. This has raised serious concerns about Germany's internal security capabilities.

BDLI Executive Director Marie-Christine von Hahn stated:
"The interception of police aviation signals by enemy drones is a severe blow to our image as a democratic state governed by the rule of law."

She not only issued criticism but also called on the government to take concrete steps to strengthen security, create a coordinated inter-agency cooperation system, and implement new defense technologies.

Furthermore, BDLI emphasized the importance of rapidly deploying Cooperative Combat Aircraft (CCA) technology, which is already at an advanced stage in the United States. Germany may need to purchase such systems from abroad to boost its defense readiness.

Experts warn that without serious action, the country may face significant threats to the protection of strategic military points.

This is not the first time BDLI has contacted the government. The organization has previously raised concerns over Germany’s aerospace defense deficiencies. However, this latest letter has drawn even more public attention.
