The Air Force of Ukraine on Tuesday evening reported about an aviation incident that occurred in the west of the country. A Mirage 2000 fighter jet experienced a technical malfunction during the execution of a flight mission. According to official information, the pilot ejected and survived. His condition is stable, no casualties on the ground were recorded.
Although it was not specifically stated where the incident occurred, according to local press, the accident happened in Volyn region. A representative of the Ukrainian Air Force, Colonel Yuriy Ihnat, commented to journalists: “The pilot lost the ability to control the plane, but using all possibilities, directed it as far as possible from populated areas, into an uninhabited place.”
At present, a special commission has been appointed to study the causes of the incident. The Ukrainian Air Force emphasized that “such technical failures always occur in the aviation world.” Experts note the necessity of further strengthening safety standards and technical control.
The technical problem with the Mirage 2000 fighter in Ukraine, thanks to the pilot’s professionalism and his emergency decisions, did not lead to serious consequences.
