Beijing floods: 30 people killed
At least 30 people have died in China’s capital Beijing and surrounding areas due to heavy rain and flooding. More than 80,000 people have been relocated to safe zones. The floods have destroyed roads and homes, and hundreds of villages have lost electricity.

President Xi Jinping called on officials to prepare for “worst-case scenarios” and ordered intensified rescue operations. The state has allocated 200 million yuan (approximately $28 million) in aid.

The hardest-hit areas were the Miyun and Huairou districts. Some residents had to call for rescuers via social media. According to witnesses, the water “rushed in suddenly.”

In recent weeks, China has faced other natural disasters as well: landslides, typhoons, and heatwaves. Experts link these events to climate change.
